Recurring Tasks
Overview
Recurring tasks automatically recreate themselves after you complete them. Use them for anything you do regularly: daily standups, weekly reviews, monthly reports, hourly checks, or any repeating work.
Max plan only. Recurring tasks are available exclusively on the Max plan.
How to Set Up
- Open any task (click it on the board, or open its full page)
- Find the Repeat field in the properties panel
- Choose a schedule (see below), and optionally a time of day and an end date
- For Custom, pick an interval and unit (minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months)
Daily / Every working day
Every day, or Monday to Friday only
Weekly / Every other week
On one or several weekdays you pick
Monthly / Every other month
On the same day of the month (31 January becomes 28 February)
Custom
Every N minutes (min 15), hours, days, weeks, or months
Select "Does not repeat" to remove recurrence from a task.
How It Works
The cycle works like a chain - each task must be closed before the next one exists:
- Set recurrence on a task (e.g. "Daily")
- Close the task (mark as done or cancelled)
- The next occurrence is created straight away, in Backlog, with the date it is due to start, so you can already see it, plan around it and add notes
- When that date arrives, it moves from Backlog to Open (if you already started it, it is left as it is)
- The new task inherits the recurrence rule, so closing it creates the next one - and so on
The new task inherits:
- Title, description, and markdown content
- Priority, category, and assignee
- Tags and closing requisites
- The recurrence rule itself
- A fresh deadline, counted from its start date (if the original had a duration-based SLA)
Recurrence-created tasks are marked with "Auto-created from recurrence" in their detail panel, and their source is set to "recurrence".
Good to Know
- The move from Backlog to Open is checked every 15 minutes, so it can happen a few minutes after the start time
- Minimum custom interval for minutes is 15 minutes
- The recurrence on the original task is cleared after the new copy is created, preventing duplicates
- You can break the chain at any time by setting the Repeat field to "Does not repeat" before closing a task
