Sticky Notes
What they are for
The scratch layer. A sticky note has no status, no assignee, no deadline and nothing to close. That is the whole point. Use one for a command you keep re-typing, a URL you need for the next twenty minutes, or the three bullet points you want in front of you during a call.
If it has a lifecycle, it is a task. The board caps at 100 notes; hitting that is usually a sign a few of them should have been tasks.
Opening the board
The sticky button sits in the bottom-right corner of every page, with a badge showing how many notes you have. Click it to slide the board out, Esc to put it away. It stays available in Focus mode, because that is exactly when a passing thought needs somewhere to go. You can turn the bubble off in Settings → Display; nothing is deleted.
Copying
Every note has a copy button that puts its content on the clipboard in one click. That is the reason most sticky notes exist, so it is one click and never two.
Global or project-specific
A note is global by default and follows you around the app. Switch it to project while a project is open and it only appears there, so the board does not become every project's notes at once. Open a project's board and you see its notes plus your global ones.
Links inside a note
Markdown works. Two shorthands are worth knowing, and both work in task descriptions and notes as well:
KA123: a bare task ID from one of your projects becomes a link with a hover preview.@specor@docs/spec.md: an@mention becomes a link to that resource.
Email addresses, URLs and code blocks are left alone, so you@example.com stays an address.
Colours and pinning
Six colours: amber, rose, violet, sky, emerald and slate. Pin a note to float it to the top of the board regardless of order.
From an AI agent
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor can manage sticky notes over MCP: list them with karea_list_sticky_notes (in karea_read), create and edit them with karea_create_sticky_note and karea_edit_sticky_note (in karea_notes_write), and delete them with karea_delete_sticky_note (in karea_delete). Over HTTP they are at /api/sticky-notes.
